It’s a series that has long been rumored, and now, it appears that it is actually happening. TV Line, one of the most reliable sources in the television game, has just announced that the streaming service is currently in development on a spin-off for Jon Bernthal‘s The Punisher. As fans know, Bernthal will be portraying the iconic character in the second season of Daredevil, which will hit Netflix on March 18th, 2016.
Netflix is this close to pulling the trigger on The Punisher, a new Marvel spinoff series centered on Jon Bernthal’s gun-toting Daredevil vigilante (aka Frank Castle), TVLine has learned exclusively.
For those keeping track at home, this would mark Netflix’s sixth Marvel series, following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, the upcoming Luke Cage, and the in-the-works Iron Fist and The Defenders.
News that Netflix is developing a Punisher series isn’t entirely surprising, especially given the praise Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb, as well as others involved with the production, have been heaping upon Bernthal’s portrayal. Still, it is surprising to hear it’s happening prior to the release of Daredevil‘s second season.
What do you think? Would you love to see The Punisher land his own series? Sound off in the comments below!
*It’s worth noting that Netflix will be holding a panel at the TCAs tomorrow, so there’s a good chance that we’ll hear confirmation regarding this news tomorrow.
