Marvel Studios sent out a press release for their 2017 slate of films today which included a small surprise: a new synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok. This new synopsis confirms much of the casting that has been reported for the film over the past few months. While the synopsis does not reveal character names beyond Thor and Loki, it does confirm several plot points, which seem to indicate that this film will draw from both the Planet Hulk comics storylines as well as Ragnarok.
In Marvel Studios Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok-the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization- at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first, he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!
Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi and features Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. They are joined by Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban, with Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
Kevin Feige will. produce alongside Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum and Victoria Alonso. Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee also serve as Executive producers.
While the new synopsis doesn’t provide any ground-shaking revelations, it does drive home the very obvious point that Thor: Ragnarok is the only MCU film slated for 2017 for which there has been no official released trailer. The MCU fan base is hungry to see something regarding the film and this new synopsis simply whets that appetite for more. With any luck, the new information is a precursor to bigger and better things.
In addition to the synopsis, a new BTS photo of both Hemsworth and Waititi has popped up. Hopefully, this means we start getting a lot more information about the film in the near future.
