Although we’re still quite a ways away from seeing any sort of footage from Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, that hasn’t stopped director James Gunn and Groot himself, Vin Diesel, teasing the upcoming film. In a recent Facebook Live video, Diesel gushed about the footage he’s seen, stating that it completely blew him away.

Diesel also took the time to praise Gunn as a genius for his ability to create something amazing out of nothing. The relationship between Gunn and Diesel is a unique one. Following their Facebook video, Gunn revealed that the two are the only ones who have a special Groot version of the script, in which all of Groot’s 3-word lines have been translated with full thoughts and sentences.

Gunn went on to explain how the sequel compares to the first film, explaining that, while the first film was about creating this family of misfits, the sequel is about actually being a family.

“And that’s one of the things that this movie is about… The first movie was really about becoming a family. This movie is about being a family. And what’s harder, becoming a family or being a family? I think it’s being a family. That’s where you really have to deal with each other.”

During the first film, audiences were able to get a sense of the sibling rivalry between Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana), the adoptive daughters of Thanos. Of course, that film also resulted in the two ending the film as enemies. Going into Vol. 2, we can expect things to be a bit different between the two.

“I really feel like we give the female characters a chance to shine in this movie. Because Zoe Saldana comes in and she is so wonderfully beautiful as her character. It’s touching. And Karen Gillan as Nebula comes in, and she’s her sister, and she’s completely a much deeper character than we got in the first movie, so we get to know her. That’s what this movie is about. And they’re sisters. They are family, whether they like it or not. And they also want to kill each other, so it adds a new twist to being a sister.”

Diesel agreed before going on to add that the ‘sisterhood’ shown in this film is something we haven’t yet seen.

“That character, the sisterhood that you explore in this movie is something we haven’t seen in film. We definitely haven’t seen it in this level of film.”

When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 finally hits theaters on May 5th, 2017 we will get a chance to see the whole team try to stay a family while, of course, saving the Galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, will star Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Racoon), Vin Diesel (Groot), Dave Bautista (Drax), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Glenn Close (Nova Prime), Kurt Russell (Ego), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), and Elizabeth Debicki as (Aeysha).
