Ever since he debuted in the first season of Daredevil last year, Vincent D’Onofrio quickly won over longtime fans and casual viewers alike with his portrayal of Wilson Fisk. His layered performance as the corrupt crime lord was one of the high points of the first season of Daredevil, and he is now considered to be one of the greatest villains of the MCU. In the comics, Kingpin was a longtime foe of both Spider-Man and Daredevil, and ever since Spider-Man has returned home to the MCU, fans have been wondering when and where we can next expect to see the Kingpin of Crime show up next. D’Onofrio has made it known that he would love to continue to play the character, and has also openly expressed interest in going toe to toe with Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man. When directly asked whether or not he would be involved in upcoming installments of the Spider-Man franchise, the actor took to Twitter to clear the air on the issue.

Fans have been clamoring for MCU television characters to make the jump to the big screen for years now, the most recent example being the push for the Defenders to join the Avengers in the fight against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. However, while several characters from the films have made the jump from the big screen to the television shows (Nick Fury, Agent Coulson, and Lady Sif to name a few), Kevin Feige has made it clear that we shouldn’t expect to see our favorite Netflix characters cross over into the films in the near future. D’Onofrio’s response further supports Feige’s claims. However, with the Defenders set to drop on Netflix next year, fans have also been wondering if Fisk will make a return after his surprise appearance in the second season of Daredevil this spring. Again, D’Onofrio responded fairly definitively on this issue.

While we would love to see more of Kingpin in upcoming Netflix shows, it’s probably for the best that he won’t show up in the Defenders. The miniseries will only be eight episodes long, and the cast is packed as it is. One of the most prevalent criticisms of last years Avengers: Age of Ultron was the fact that it was overstuffed. It seems that Marvel is learning from its mistakes and limiting the cast as much as they can in order to make the series the best it can be.
