Spider-Man: Homecoming is just a few months away from debuting in theaters, but there is still a lot about the film which we simply don’t know, especially regarding the roles of many actors. The biggest question surrounds the identity of Zendaya’s character.

Many have speculated her to be portraying Mary Jane Watson, despite the casting sheet listing her as “Michelle.” Reports have even stated that she will be playing Mary Jane, but today Zendaya has confirmed to ET Online that she is not playing Mary Jane and that her character’s name is Michelle.

Well, I’m not Mary Jane unfortunately, but I am in the movie which is exciting. My character’s name is Michelle, if that’s what everybody wants to think. I’m gonna let people think whatever they want to think.

Seems pretty definitive, right? It certainly seems like Zendaya is, in fact playing a character named Michelle in the film, but her gestures during the interview (below) only continue to raise questions if she is telling us the truth, or if they are still trying to conceal her true role. In addition, this isn’t the first time that the actress has addressed rumors surrounding her role in the film. What do you think? Is Zendaya playing Mary Jane, or Michelle?
