Coming into San Diego Comic-Con, we knew Marvel would give us information on Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 but nothing else was guaranteed. There was hope that Captain Marvel would be cast, and thankfully Brie Larson was confirmed in the role, but there was no word on whether or not we would get anything for Spider-Man: Homecoming. After Spidey’s fantastic debut earlier this year and the fact that they are currently filming, it would have been a little weird for it not to have a presence at SDCC.
The panel itself gave us our first confirmation of Vulture, prior to concept art for his look being revealed shortly after. Since then, cast interviews have been popping up from various sources and the latest one comes courtesy of MTV. They had the chance to talk to Zendaya and asked her about what Michelle, the official name for her character, is like in the upcoming film. Luckily for the actress, she gets to just be herself because they are so similar.
Everyone, honestly, is so much like their characters. My character is super dry and awkward. It’s great because it’s who I am in real life, so I don’t feel like I have to act too much.
It should not come as a surprise that Zendaya later revealed that Spider-Man is her favorite character, being in his movie would do that to people. However, that is not the reason. According to the actress, she has been a fan of his for a while now because of how relatable he is, and the fact that her first date involved seeing the latest Spider-Man film at the time.
Spider-Man has always been my favorite… because he’s always been the realest and the coolest. He’s a real kid. He’s normal, and he’s living his life and trying to discover and understand what it’s like to be a human being growing up — while simultaneously saving the world.
My first date I ever went on was to Spider-Man. It’s special. I went when I just turned 16, finally was allowed to date. It was my first date, and it was to see Spider-Man. So full circle!
It is unclear, but possible, that Zendaya could end up going on a date with Peter Parker either in this movie or down the line too. With no Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy, Zendaya or Laura Harrier as Liz Allen could get their shot at the new web-slinger. After all, there is a dance in the movie and Peter has to get a date right? Either way, let us know what you think in the comments below!
Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled to hit theaters July 7, 2017.
