It’s no secret that The ‘8 years later’ title card seen at the beginning of Spider-Man: Homecoming was one of the most controversial things to come out of the MCU. Not only did it reframe the accepted timetable of events of the films but it totally threw out the placement of the TV shows in the timeline. In an interview during their Avengers: Infinity War world tour, director Joe Russo finally admitted what fans thought about the ‘8 years later’ card after being quizzed about it: it was a mistake.

Oh it was 8 years, I believe. A very incorrect 8 years.

Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige once mentioned that an official MCU timeline would be published down the line. It’ll be weird to see them work their way through the ‘8 years later’ card knowing it wasn’t meant to be a huge mistake. Still, it makes you wonder how such an error made its way to a film. Surely Feige and co. were consulted by Sony before signing off on the final cut, right?
