Back in April, it was announced that Marvel and ABC were looking to create a spin-off series from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that focused on Agent Bobbi Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird, played by Adrianne Palicki, and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood). It seemed as though the series would end up getting a pilot order, and that we’d hear more news about the spin-off when ABC announced a season three pick-up for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., only to be told that they decided not to move forward with the series at the time.

Now, per Variety, it looks as though the Mockingbird series is back in development as ABC has officially ordered a pilot, and a new name – Marvel’s Most Wanted.

“SHIELD” producers Jeff Bell and Paul Zbyszewski co-created the project for Marvel and ABC Studios, co-writing the pilot. They will serve as showrunners and exec producers together with Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb also exec producing.

Insiders say the series is not a spinoff, per se, but rather an entirely new project solely focused on the two characters to continue their story. Though plot details are scarce at this point, “Marvel’s Most Wanted” will follow the pair and their adventures together.

At this time, ABC has not made any decisions regarding premiere date or a path of introduction, such as introducing the new show as a planted episode during “SHIELD.”

What’s interesting is that the show is no longer being called a direct spin-off, but a completely separate project built around these two characters, only stating it’ll focus on their “continuing adventures.” Would this lead to Palicki and Blood exiting S.H.I.E.L.D. completely, or would they still appear as guest stars occasionally – assuming the show gets a series pick-up? Either way, I’m excited to see Palicki headline her own series as her portrayal of Bobbi Morse has been excellent.

It’s worth noting again that this is not the mysterious project that was announced with John Ridley, that project is still in development, and as of right now, not much else is known about that project.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC next month on September 29th. You can currently stream the first two seasons of the show on Netflix, so if you’re not caught up yet, you still have a little over a month to do so!
