Spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok below brahs! Don’t say we didn’t warn you!!
Over the past few months leading to Thor: Ragnarok, rumors have been brewing regarding the potential return of Jaimie Alexander‘s Sif in the franchise’s third outing. Alexander has previously gone on the record teasing the return of Lady Sif so it’s a bit surprising to find out that she’s nowhere near the film. Speaking to Yahoo!, Alexander had this to say about her absence.
I was asked, but the timing of when they were going to shoot and when Blindspot was gonna shoot — it was pretty much the same time. So there was a conflict there. I was hoping for more of a notice from [the studio] so I could make it work, but it was a short notice thing. They called and said, ‘Hey, by the way, would you come do this?’ I said there is no way I can make that work that fast. It couldn’t happen. They were on a different continent! So it was sad. I was bummed about it.
Having seen the film, it’s noticeably weird not having Sif alongside the Warriors Three in such a major event. But at the same time, her absence might be a blessing in disguise seeing how most of the supporting characters were unceremoniously dealt with. Plus her character isn’t canonically handcuffed to Ragnarok meaning there’s a lot of room for her character to be written into other stories. Maybe Sif was just on another planet all this time.
And despite her missing out on the film, Alexander said that was more than happy to return if she got the call from Marvel again.
Oh, sure! I love Marvel. I’d be happy to do other projects with them at any time. They’re a great company — I love all the guys and girls over there — they always are able to get a really fun cast for almost every project they have, which is often. And, of course, who doesn’t want to be a superhero?
