Production on Marvel Studios’ new Disney+ shows has finally started, and although news has been sparse since SDCC regarding casting and other details for the multiple shows on the new streaming platform, we get to bring some exciting news today! Our good friend Charles Murphy revealed on Murphy’s Multiverse that Adepero Oduye has joined the cast of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, although her role is currently undisclosed.
The rumor is that her character will have a very close connection to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. The best guesses are either Sam’s sister Sarah or his girlfriend Leila Taylor, both directly from the comics, which would make a pretty good amount of sense considering we’ve seen none of his family or anything regarding Sam’s dating life in the movies thus far. Regardless of her specific role, we’re all intrigued to dig deeper into the lives and backstories of the two title characters as the show progresses
Oduye has made it big in Hollywood over the past few years and is best known for her roles in The Big Short and 12 Years a Slave, both films becoming Oscar winners/nominees. She is the first brand new cast member to join the series since Wyatt Russell was announced to play John Walker/US Agent at D23, and they both will join MCU regulars Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter), Daniel Brühl (Helmut Zemo), and Anthony Mackie for Disney+’s flagship Marvel miniseries. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is due for a release in Fall 2020, and all of us are excited for Marvel to, as Mackie famously loves to tell us, cut the check!
