Spoilers: If you haven’t caught up with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season two, I would suggest you stop reading here as we will be discussing the season finale below.

At the end of the second season, before Simmons was pulled away by the Kree rock, everyone seemed to have found some sort of peace – especially Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), who we last saw prepping to go on a vacation with her ex-husband Dr. Andrew Garner (Blair Underwood). But it looks as though when Agent May returns from her vacation, things may end up changing for the team yet again, as she will have to decide if she should continue to devote herself to S.H.I.E.L.D. or if she should place more focus on her personal life.

“In any situation when someone is so devoted to their work as May was, but then realizing over the last two years that S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t really what she dedicated her life to,” Wen tells TVGuide.com. “That there was definitely a lot of corruption to S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as uncertainty now with the Inhumans being brought in by Coulson. It’s going to be figuring out her final decision in Season 3 and I think Andrew will probably play a part in it.”

Given the work the writers did on developing May’s character last season, and making her more than just a kick-ass agent, it’s no surprise that we’re going to continue to see a few changes within May as she continues to develop more down the road. Still, I’d rather not see the team lose another member – even if only temporary – especially one as vital as Agent May.

Interestingly enough, it looks as though the changes going into season three won’t just stop there. According to Underwood, we can expect to see a bit of a change in Dr. Garner when he returns this season too.

“What’s interesting is now May is disgruntled by S.H.I.E.L.D., but last season when May came to Andrew with the idea of coming back to S.H.I.E.L.D., he was disgruntled and had left the agency,” Underwood says. “But now he’s back working with them and the Inhumans.”

Here’s to hoping that Dr. Garner helps to remind Agent May what led her what S.H.I.E.L.D. means and what it was before all of the corruption we saw last season.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC next month on September 29th.
