Renewal and Cancellation season has finally arrived and with it the wait has finally come to an end, as shortly before the last episode releases for Season 4 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. , ABC revealed if we can anticipate the show to return for another season. Its current run has proven to be quite an interesting one, as not only did they shake it up with splitting the season into three distinct pods, Ghost Rider, LMD and Agents of HYDRA, but the show also managed to stay surprisingly consistent in its ratings on ABC’s infamous death slot on Tuesday’s at 10 pm.
SHIELD has officially been renewed for another season consisting of 22 episodes. The show averaged around 4.3 million total viewers and a 1.5 in the 18-49 demographic in its fourth season, and will now be joining ABC’s other renewed shows for the upcoming TV season. So far it seems it will remain on its 10 pm slot, but it is still unknown if it will air on the same day as ABC’s other upcoming Marvel series, Inhumans.
While not much is known what we can expect from the upcoming season, but we will most likely see a tease of what story may come in the finale. The direction the show has been taken, we hopefully will see the open story arc teased all the way back in Season 1 featuring Graviton. It would be a great way to come full-circle on the show and also give the show a feeling of finality. Perhaps we will also finally see a real Secret Warrior team come together in the final season to face off against their greatest enemy.
There are many direction the show can still go and without knowing what the finale has in store for its viewers, not much can be said as of yet. Hopefully some of the still open plot threads will be tackled and the show receives a feeling of finality to avoid what has happened with Agent Carter, which still has that nasty cliffhanger open to interpretation. Whatever will happen, we will have to wait until September to see what the agents have in store for us.
How do you feel about the renewal? What do you think we can expect from the upcoming season?
