Actor Powers Boothe has passed away at the age of 68, dying from natural causes during his sleep in his home in Los Angeles. He leaves behind a wife and two children. His longtime friend Beau Bridges (brother to Obadiah Stane himself, Jeff Bridges) confirmed the tragedy a few hours ago through Twitter.
It's with great sadness that I mourn the passing of my friend Powers Boothe. A dear friend, great actor, devoted father & husband.

The actor has lone been a staple in film and TV, having played a plethora of characters ranging from shows like Deadwood to films like Sin City. Most notable to us fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was his role in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as baddie Gideon Malick. Gideon was one of the characters of the rare instance that actually originated in the films, having appeared in the Avengers as a member of the World Security Council. His stint in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was one of the great highlights of Season 3 as Boothe played a crucial role as a HYDRA leader responsible for the return of an Inhuman god banished to an ancient planet. Boothe’s portrayal of Gideon Malick was nothing short of magnetic, imbuing him with the formidable presence, gravitas, and austerity Boothe was known for. He also had a kickass baritone voice that could command the room at a whim’s notice.
His presence in the world of film and TV will be sorely missed. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
