Many fans feel like Season 4 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was its best. With three separate pods, “Ghost Rider,” “LMD,” and “Agents of Hydra,” the plot kept moving along. Particularly, the ending pod about the Framework brought a lot of plaudits for it’s “What if…” style storytelling. Fans could see the new characters interact with those who died long ago. The plot also served as a way to make comment on current issues in American culture. Those happy fans can rejoice, because the Framework is returning, according to EW.
I can confirm that Team S.H.I.E.L.D. is definitely in space, but the Framework will come back into play in a very surprising (and revealing) way soon.
This little bit of news is so exciting in a couple ways. First of all, the show isn’t just retreading the Framework. As good as the story was, it would be a shame to merely undo the resolution of the previous episode. So the “surprising (and revealing)” part is good. Also, it is important that these plots have stakes and continuing effect. (Might this have something to do with Coulson’s deal with the Devil in last season’s finale?)
Guessing as to how this works out could be fun. Maybe the Superior will continue to develop into MODOK. Maybe an alternate reality has been created that bleeds over into our own universe. The people in space know Coulson as a legend, but what if they’re from the Framework and have lionized Coulson the teacher turned patriot. Or maybe the Framework and Aida have somehow become sentient out in space. So many possibilities. Maybe FrameWard will return!
