When the first trailer dropped for Avengers: Age of Ultron, speculation ran rampant that Andy Serkis would portray Black Panther villain, Ulysses Klaw. There was a ton of mystery surrounding the role Serkis would play at first, but the short glimpse we’d gotten of Serkis in the trailer highly resembled the comic book character, making it pretty easy to guess who he was playing – although it had taken quite some time for any sort of confirmation to come out. (That confirmation later came thanks via Stitch Kingdom.)

So when Empire Magazine had a chance to speak with Serkis during the 2015 Jameson Empire Awards, they of course had to ask him about Ulysses Klaw and whether we could expect to see him in Black Panther.

In the above video, Serkis confirms that he is playing Ulysses Klaw, and that he doesn’t know yet if he’ll reprise the role in Black Panther. With Black Panther set for release on July 6, 2018, it’s still very well possible that Serkis won’t know for some time if Klaw will be back.

Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which Serkis will appear as Klaw, will be released on May 1st, 2015
