It wasn’t too long ago that Marvel Studios’ upcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp was predicted to open to a $75 million opening at the domestic Box Office. This put the sequel ahead of its predecessor and would certainly point to another win. Typical for most Marvel films, those predictions have once again got another boost with it possible heading towards an opening between $85 to $100 million. Internationally it is predicted to make between $50 to $70 million, even with it opening in three of the five highest-grossing international opening markets from the first Ant-Man film.
Deadline points out that the film could even go higher as it is currently outpacing Doctor Strange and the sequel’s pre-sales are on-par with last July’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. There is a good chance that the film could potentially double Ant-Man‘s domestic haul. It even builds on Avengers: Infinity War‘s massive cliffhanger that may have people hoping that this film may offer some hints about what to expect. It also does not have to battle holiday fatigue with Independence Day landing on a Wednesday. There is a good chance that the film could bank on 2018’s general allure for superhero blockbusters, as both Infinity War and Black Panther outpaced their early predictions.
It is certainly a good year for Marvel Studios and the addition of the Wasp certainly helps cement the draw for female superheroes. Captain Marvel will release next year and is the studios’ first female-led superhero film so this film’s success will help establish the momentum. We will also get some teaser that may hint at the plot for Avengers 4 so Ant-Man and the Wasp is the perfect film to close out the year for the studio.
What do you think? How much do you hope it will make?
