This morning started off with great news for fans of the Netflix shows Marvel has made. So far, Daredevil and Jessica Jones have aired their first seasons, with the second season of Daredevil coming in March and the first season of Luke Cage coming later this year. Now, Jessica Jones has been renewed for a second season with rumors swirling of Punisher getting his own series in the future.

If you are hoping for more Netflix properties with spin-offs and new characters, this next piece of information should make you very happy. While at the TCA’s today, Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said anything is possible with Marvel moving forward.

Any character that’s in there is on the table … It’s always possible. All the characters in the universe could also spin out.

However, if that makes you think that we could be getting three or more series a year, Sarandos does not want to rush anything. So far the formula is working and they intend to stick with it.

Right now, these are produced at the scale of a major film, so there are long production times and long post times. In some case, when we have character crossover, it makes it more difficult to manage production. It’s not the goal to put out more than one or two out a year.

If and when these spin offs happen will mainly be determined by how The Defenders progresses.

The complex one is really The Defenders. The Defenders production schedule will determine a lot of the season 2 and 3 output of those shows.

It sounds like we are only at the beginning of the Netflix corner of the MCU with renewals and spin-offs on the way. Even though they did not confirm that the Punisher spin off series is in the works, EW did state in their article that they have heard that they are currently looking for a showrunner to gain an understanding of what the series could look like. (Note: We probably won’t hear anything official until after season two of Daredevil premieres.)
