UPDATED: It appears that there are mixed reports on the status of Marvel and Sony casting their new Spider-Man. The original post below depicts Umberto Gonzalez’s report that Asa Butterfield has entered negotiations for the role, but other outlets are reporting different information.
`
So that's that, from what I understand Asa is high on the list but so is Holland

The way a test offer works is the studio negotiates with each actor testing so that once a choice is made no negotiating is needed

What I know: Asa Butterfield was due to test for SPIDER-MAN this week. But so were a few others. Is Asa Peter Parker?

Are they done testing? What I know: There certainly is no offer. Yet. What I also know: There are certainly many rooting for Asa.

After months of speculation and a short list of young actors up for the role, Marvel and Sony have reportedly found their new Spider-Man. Umberto ‘El Mayimbe’ Gonzalez has been told that Asa Butterfield will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the reboot. According to his sources, Marvel and Butterfield’s reps have entered negotiations and he is their top choice.
This would not be the first big movie role for Butterfield as he as previously starred in Ender’s Game and Hugo. His name has been in the mix since the beginning and has been a fan favorite in casting lists since the Sony and Marvel deal was agreed upon.
Rumors have been swirling that Spider-Man would make his debut before his solo movie in 2017 and that it would likely come in Captain America: Civil War, which has just started shooting. Marvel announced the full cast list and synopsis last week but Spider-Man was not on the list.
Now that Butterfield has been brought on, expect Marvel to make an official announcement soon and hopefully confirmation that he will appear in Captain America: Civil War.
