A little over a week ago, Latino-Review reported that Asa Butterfield was the new Spider-Man. This report came after weeks of speculation and comments stating that Butterfield was the frontrunner. According to the trades, the report from Latino-Review was too early to call. They’ve stated that Marvel was still looking at other candidates and that no offers had been made at the time.

Since then, things have been rather quiet. It’s been rumored that whoever nabs the role wouldn’t be required on the set of Captain America: Civil War, which is currently filming in Atlanta, until June. Assuming those reports are accurate, it is possible that we’ll officially hear who has landed the coveted role sometime soon.

Today, images surfaced of Butterfield commenting to a post on Reddit about him being cast as Spider-Man. While he doesn’t comment directly on the report or his desire to play the part, his comments are interesting and he seems to be having fun with the rumors.

Butterfield is very active on Reddit and has commented on Spider-Man posts on Reddit before, showing interest in playing Peter Parker.

Butterfield may not be what everyone had in mind for the role of Peter Parker, especially after Andrew Garfield’s take on the character, but we seem to be heading in that direction. Other candidates may look the part more, but just as he said, being a “thin little bespectacled dweeb” is pretty close to who he actually is. At the end of the day, fans, and even Kevin Feige himself, want an actor who can portray the quirky and comedic side of Peter Parker like we have never seen on the big screen.
