On top of every MCU’s fans’ list of news to look forward to is the super top secret title of Avengers 4. And because we still have a ways to go until the Russos reveal the title, so much speculation surrounding the title has emerged prompting Kevin Feige to tell fans to temper their expectations for the title. Well, according to a new report from MCU Cosmic, Avengers 4 had a title during its production and it’s one people from the Marvel camp vehemently denied: Infinity Gauntlet.

Through multiple sources I’ve received confirmation that throughout production, they really were referring to the second half of Thanos’ story as “Infinity Gauntlet”. That explains why people such as Frosty at Collider were so adamant that it was called Infinity Gauntlet during the Infinity War press junket. He hammered the Russo Brothers on it in a video interview, and then did the same to Kevin Feige who denied it was the title.

Throughout filming that’s what they were calling the movie, but as everyone knows the title accidentally was blurted out at the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premiere. That’s why they were so quick to jump on it and try to put out the fire.

Everything about the title of Avengers 4 has been super fascinating to follow. By keeping the title a secret from everybody, alleging that it alone would spoil Infinity War, it turned into a major deal for fans to debate on. Add to that, this report giving credence to Saldana’s slip, Kevin Feige insisting the title won’t live up to fan expecations and denying the Gauntlet title, and the Russos saying that Avengers: Forever is the closest thing anyone’s gotten to guessing it (hinting at a more thematic title than plot-based). Folks are starting to believe that the film will be simply titled Avengers: Infinity at this point which I’m not a fan of. Whatever it’ll end up being, it’s bound to cause a major stir among fans.
