Earlier today, Avengers 4 merchandise surfaced online, providing fans a look at some new containment suits for the team to wear in the quantum realm-spanning sequel. Along with it came a barely distinguishable logline that, with the help of some eagle-eyed fans out there, said:
The Asgardian Thor wields the mighty Stormbreaker in his battle against new foes. Rocket teams up with a new crew to guard the galaxy from an even greater threat.
This is a tough cookie to figure out as we all presumed Thanos to still be the sole baddie of the Avengers: Infinity War follow-up. While that is still likely the case, it is exciting to know that there are “new foes” and “greater threats” awaiting the team in this installment. The whole point of Thanos’ Snapture was to restore the galaxy into a peaceful neutral state. Instead of restoring balance, could Thanos have put the multiverse in a more fragile state? Could those new threats be cosmic beings Thanos has angered with a snap of his finger aka the Astral Conflagration? Could the greater threat be a race to stop a multiverse-wide collision like Jonathan Hickman‘s Incursion? Could all these be the team’s impetus to rush out and bring back those they lost?
