The latest issue of Empire magazine features a lot of brand new stills for Avengers: Infinity War. They do not reveal a lot of new information on the film but it does offer us a great look at the some Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Thanos. They do not reveal much but give us some interesting hints at what some of the key sequences already shown in the trailer. We get a closer look at the Guardians on their ship, one with them trying to help an unconscious Thor and just a great shot of Teenage Groot playing on his phone. We get a rather interesting still with Iron Man trying to avoid something that looks like a hammer. Perhaps he will get into a fight with Cull Obsidian at some point in the film? If this does happen, then they might get into a fight before the Wakandan war.
The trailers and these stills focus strongly on the confrontation on the planet Titan and in Wakanda. At first, one would think that these two arcs both take place during the last third of the film, especially with Thanos taking down Iron Man on Titan. Yet, the last trailer revealed that Thanos is also involved in the invasion of Wakanda, as he is fighting Rogers with two stones on his Infinity Gauntlet. Certain characters appear in specific sequences and the last still actually reveals that Mantis will be part of the group that gets stuck on Titan. At this point, Gamora is the only one that does not show up in one of the two main sequence and she might have been kidnapped by Thanos so that his favorite daughter would finally come back home.
Interestingly, while we get a still with Wong and Doctor Strange, they are not present in any other still that was revealed so far. We know that Strange will be involved with the fight on Titan, as he creates platforms for Star-Lord to jump on but otherwise he isn’t shown in any group shots. This opens up the question if there are other characters that will crossover into different sequences, as we still do not know how all of this connects. Thor will have his own journey alongside Groot and Rocket but is nowhere present in what seems to be the main action sequences of the film. He might be the key that they need to keep the Infinity Stones away from Thanos.
That is not all, as we also get two new shots of the Wasp in action for Marvel Studios’ last 2018 film, Ant-Man and the Wasp. Just like the first trailer, the primary focus is on Wasp. Evangeline Lilly‘s character is not the only Wasp that will headline the story, as Janet Van Dyne is also confirmed to return in the sequel. The tagline “You’ll believe a Wasp can fly” is a nice little nod to the famous tagline of Richard Donner‘s Superman from 1978.
What do you think of the stills? How do you think everything connects in Infinity War?
