We recently learned that Avengers: Infinity War will begin production in Atlanta in January. For those readers who are unfamiliar with film production, this simply means that the film will begin shooting, or principal photography, on January 23rd. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have been in Atlanta for a few months now, working on pre-production, or development, for the film. With pre-production for the film currently wrapping up, we are starting to get our first news for the film as far as casting is concerned. While no principal cast has been officially confirmed by Marvel, extras are currently being cast for the film. According to ProjectCasting, Infinity War is seeking extras to play aliens in the film in “Featured Roles.”
“Central Casting is now taking submissions for people to play “aliens” on the upcoming Avengers: Infinity Wars movie, which is now in pre-production in Atlanta, Georgia. Producers are looking for men and women, all ethnicities, who appear 18 – 50’s, who are TALL with a SLENDER or athletic build. MUST be comfortable being PAINTED. In addition, producers are looking for people willing to have prosthetics applied to their face, in addition to being painted.”
It’s no surprise that there will be aliens featured in Infinity War, but what species will these aliens belong to? There’s no way to know for sure, but the casting call gives us a little bit to go on. These aliens will be tall and slender, and the extras will need to be painted. That being said, here are our top three guesses as to who they might be.
3. The Chitauri
Given that the Chitauri fought for Thanos indirectly in 2012’s the Avengers, it makes sense that they could show up again in Infinity War to fight alongside the Mad Titan. Since the casting call only schedules extras for two days of filming, it makes sense that these aliens could be Chitauri warriors. It would be retreading the same ground to have them show up again as Thanos’ main footsoldiers, but a cameo appearance would be an interesting callback to the first Avengers film. However, even though the Chitauri are tall and lanky, they were performed with motion capture in the first film, and the extras were not painted.
2. The Kree
If the Kree make an appearance in Infinity War, it won’t be the first time we’ve seen them in the MCU. The species first made their debut back in 2014 on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as we came to find out that they were partially responsible for the GH.325 that helped bring back Agent Coulson from the dead. For those who don’t follow the TV side of the MCU, the Kree made their first appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy in the form of Ronan The Accuser. In the comics, Captain Marvel’s powers have Kree origins in some incarnations. Since it looks like Brie Larson will make her debut in the film as Captain Marvel, it makes sense that some Kree could be seen in the film. If they do appear, we don’t know in what capacity. They could be fighting alongside Thanos, but that seems unlikely, especially given the strained relationship shared by the Mad Titan and Ronan the Accuser.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with this species: in the comics, the Cotati are intelligent beings who hail from Hala, the homeworld of the Kree in the comics. They are capable of communicating telepathically with humans, and they require contact with soil and sunlight in order to survive. Another interesting thing to note about this species is that Mantis, who will make her debut appearance in the MCU in next year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, was connected to the Cotati in the comics. This means that if they do appear, the will more than likely appear much differently than their comic counterparts. Seeing as we reported that the Cotati would appear in Thor: Ragnarok, it makes a bit more sense for them to be the alien species in question as moviegoers will be familiar with them via the previously mentioned films. The Cotati, if featured, will most likely be victims of Thanos. They may come into contact with him as he seeks out the last of the Infinity Stones, or he may end up destroying their homeworld of Hala as he continues to court Death.
