Since the debut of Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the seeds for their romantic relationship have been planted. While they did not interact much in Age of Ultron, there was a moment at the end of the climactic battle where Vision literally swept Wanda Maximoff off her feet, saving her from the destruction of Sokovia.

Captain America: Civil War added some more romantic tension, taking place a year after Ultron. By this point, Wanda already has an affectionate nickname for Vision (“Vis”). And the film features some key scenes between the two, most notably a sweet moment in the Avengers Facility kitchen. Unfortunately for them, the sides they picked in the “civil war” drove them somewhat apart.

These moments showcasing their chemistry together aren’t too much more than winks to comic book readers, who are well aware of the long-standing marriage between Vision and Scarlet Witch in the source material. But according to Elizabeth Olsen, the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War will go much further with this relationship:

In any other world I would say, “I don’t know,” but because there are paparazzi photos that kind of spoil things for fans – I think it’s safe to say that we now get to explore that part of the comic book. We get to introduce and really explore their relationship. It creates a really exciting arc for me and I’m so lucky I get to work with [Paul] Bettany all the time now. (laughs)

Olsen refers to candid unauthorized set photos, that feature an intimate moment between Vision and Scarlet Witch, plus another possibly spoiler-y detail of the story, which we’re very guilty of covering.

It’s nice to see this relationship grow organically through the course of several films. Rather than slapping the romance into the film because the source material demands it, the writers and directors involved took their time to develop it. From their first meeting in Age of Ultron, to a low point in Civil War, and hopefully in a full blossoming of their romance in Infinity War.

If only Vision’s giant target of his Mind Stone forehead didn’t give us anxiety for this pairing’s possible fate.

Are you excited to see some more sparks fly between these two characters?
