Even with Phase 3 not even starting yet, it is hard not to look forward to the next Avengers film and the arrival of Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War will be the biggest movie Marvel has even made, which is probably why they are splitting it into two parts.

They are bringing Captain America directors Joe and Anthony Russo to the franchise to direct. Although the Russo brothers are hard at work on Captain America: Civil War, they are also looking forward to their next project with Marvel.

The brothers were at Wizard World this past weekend, and when the conversation eventually turned towards Avengers: Infinity War. Since the movie will be massive, it will give them the opportunity to explore other characters that have not yet been given the chance to shine. Joe gave this response,

Everything is finite, right? Nothing can last forever. It’s cyclical. Some New Avengers in phase 4 are going to become prominent and then maybe some Avengers might not be around anymore. So, we’ll see how all this plays out but you have to treat every character with respect. I think it’s interesting that if you’ve seen four or five movies with the lead character having an arc, I want to see some story telling from some of the secondary characters. We’re focusing on that right now with Infinity War while we’re breaking into those movies, is which characters can we pull to the forefront who potentially haven’t had their own ‘A’ story arc to this point. I think you’ll see that the supporting Avengers are going to become primary Avengers.

There is a lot of stuff that they have to handle during Infinity War, such as showing the power and wrath of Thanos and balancing the plethora of characters that will appear. Hopefully this means bigger roles for Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, War Machine, Falcon, Winter Soldier, and more.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is scheduled to hit theaters May 4, 2018. Part 2 is scheduled to hit theaters May 3, 2019.
