Yesterday, we debuted our picks for our favorite surprises and reveals in the MCU for the 2018. Today, we’re all about the fight scenes that blew our minds.

Matt Murdock’s Prison Breakout

The prison escape in Season 3 of Daredevil was an absolute masterpiece. The amount of talent and dedication that goes into choreographing a scene like that is completely mind-boggling. While there were certainly “bigger” fight sequences this year, for me, those 11-minutes were the best! – Alex Lurie, Feature Writer

While there were many incredible fight scenes in the MCU this year, I have to give the Netflix shows some love in this category. My pick for Best Fight Sequence goes to Daredevil Season 3’s incredible 11 minute prison fight one-take. While Marvel’s films have a seemingly endless budget to work with on their cinematography, special effects, and fight choreography, the Netflix does not, and it often shows. But not so with this incredible scene from Daredevil season 3 episode 4. Building off of the iconic one-take hallway fights of the previous seasons, this one completely blew our minds by extending it out to 11 minutes long. Not only is there brutal hand-to-hand combat, but Matt Murdock also must escape prison during a violent and explosive riot, all the while gathering important information from several gang members. It’s almost impossible to look away, and this scene shows that when it comes to cinematography and choreography, much can be done on a tight budget given the right filmmakers. Besides Actor Charlie Cox, the credit for this goes to Director Alex Garcia Lopez, Cinematographer Chris Lavasseur, and Fight Choreographer/Stunt Double Chris Brewster. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and check out this scene. – Kevin Carter, Editor

This year had Black Panther and Infinity freaking War, but the most memorable fight scene of the year was for sure the over 10-minute long sequence of Matt Murdock fighting inmates inside a rioting prison. No majestic space fight came close to the choreography and cinematography of this glorious cinematic moment. No one thought the hallway fight from season could be beaten, but like its protagonist, Daredevil picks itself back up and grows even bigger than before. – Tiago Fiszbejn, News Writer

Battle on Titan

The battle on Titan. While the battle in Wakanda was great in its own right, this fight stood out due to it featuring essentially three groups of established characters teaming up against a single big bad rather than the usual stream of mindless drones. Plus, we got to see peak Doctor Strange square off one-on-one against Thanos. – KJ Callahan, Feature Writer

It’s not a safe choice and it’s obviously not a unique one, but the battle on Titan was just spectacular from the moment that Iron Man drops a slab of rusted alien metal onto Thanos to the moment he departs with the Time Stone. All these different characters must, as Tony says, coalesce before Thanos arrives. It’s just pure superhero fun to see them working together and combining their powers, whether it’s Doctor Strange opening multiple portals for Spider-Man to kick and punch Thanos, Spider-Man blinding Thanos while Quill sticks a bomb on his back or utilizing Mantis of all character to ultimately subdue him. While they ultimately fail in protecting the Time Stone, their struggle was still engaging and fantastic to the bitter end. – Pierre Chanliau, Editor

Battle of Wakanda

The coolest fight sequence of the MCU for 2018, by far, is the Wakanda battle in Avengers: Infinity War. Seeing the Avengers (and, later on, a few Guardians) facing off against hundreds of CGI cannon fodder is never not cool, and it was at its coolest here. There are several amazing mini action moments, as well as some major moments that stuck with me long after I saw the film in theaters. – Curtis Johnson, Feature Writer

Bullseye’s Assault on the Bulletin

For me, I have a hard time deciding between the Thanos fight on Titan or just the little fight between Daredevil and Poindexter. From a technical standpoint, I really adore how they made one of the most ridiculous powers look impressive. Each throw felt heavy and the stakes were high for Matt to protect his friends. – Joseph Aberl, Editor

There’s a video of me jumping out of my seat, screaming in my underwear, watching the first showdown between Bullseye and Daredevil for the first time. I look dumb as hell and it’s embarrassing as fuck but I’ll be damned if I didn’t consider that fight the best this year. There’s simply something explosive about two iconic characters destined to beat the living crap of each other meet for the very first time. Everything about the fight is executed brilliantly. From the set – a plain office space into a labyrinth with death awaiting each corner – down to each action beat. Some moments are tastefully played for laughs but the stakes are never reeled in. Every object and punch thrown is done with such grace and brutality. Amidst the show’s cancellation, this fight is a reminder why Daredevil once stood tall in the superhero TV genre. – Charles Villanueva, Editor-in-Chief
