While the attention of much of the internet remains firmly focused on the recent Avengers: Endgame trailer, many are also looking back over the best that 2018 had to offer in preparation for award season. While the Oscars have yet to release their nominations, the Critics’ Choice Awards have just released their list, and we are getting plenty of Marvel love.
Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther not only gathered several prestigious nominations but landed the second most nominations of 2018! The categories include Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Michael B. Jordan, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Cinematography for Rachel Morrison.
The recognition from the Critic’s Choice Awards is one of the many nods the film has been receiving from several awarding bodies. The film was also nominated for three Golden Globes and its soundtrack nominated for a Grammy for Album of the Year. As the film garners more recognition, the chances of it getting an Oscar nomination, at the very least, seems more likely. Whether you disagree with its chances of winning, it’s hard to discard the merits of the film’s impact and relevance to modern pop-culture.
