Black Panther continues to make history with its latest achievement. Last night, Ryan Coogler‘s superhero debut was awarded the highly-coveted Screen Actors Guild award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Check out Chadwick Boseman‘s powerful speech below:
For those who aren’t aware, the Screen Actors Guild is the union for all participating onscreen talent in Hollywood, from A-list stars to the smallest of extras. This win puts the film closer than ever to a possible Best Picture win, as the Screen Actors Guild comprises 17% of the Oscar voting body known as the Academy. And like the Oscars, the Screen Actors Guild have generally favored smaller films over the big tentpole earners, with Black Panthers win signifying a change of perception for films like it. Black Panther is the highest grossing and only superhero picture to win this prestigious award in the guild’s history.
