Somehow it seems that everyone has underestimated how far Black Panther‘s Box Office will go by the end of President’s Day weekend. Sunday estimates put the film at an already incredible $218 million over the course of four days. Released in 4,020 locations across North America, the film beat out Deadpool with $192 million over three days. It seems it was a bit too early for the king of Wakanda to just settle with that as the film has now pulled in the second largest Sunday with $60.1 million, only $0.5 million behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
This is huge, as Marvel Studios’ latest is slowly defying everyone’s expectations especially with projects for Monday now pointing to another $33 million bringing it to a $235 million four-day gross. Going by the latest results there is a chance that it might even potentially beat out those numbers. It is now the fifth highest opening of all time behind Jurassic World, Avengers and the latest Star Wars episodes. It not only catapulted beyond Deadpool‘s $152 million February record from 2016 but also catapulted the four-day period’s overall income to a total of $340 million, which is quite a step up from 2016’s $278 million. This is also a refreshing sign for cinemas that had to go through one of the worst financial years in 2017. With Avengers: Infinity War on the horizon, this could become quite a year for Marvel Studios
