Our friends over at That Hashtag Show just got a new exclusive on Marvel Studios upcoming Black Widow project. It is targeting a 2020 release alongside The Eternals and will kick-off the post-Avengers 4 phase after the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home. We do not know much about the upcoming project, as there were some story rumors that the film would focus on the Y2K hysteria. Marvel Studios has still been quite silent on what we can expect from the upcoming project but luckily That Hashtag Show got an exclusive on the film’s character breakdowns. They do point out that they have gotten rather vague as of late, so it is more difficult to decipher what character could be involved.
Let us start off with the film’s antagonists, as the description for the main big bad is quite vague. There are hopes that characters like the Red Guardian, the Soviet version of Captain America, could make an appearance in the film. The theory by That Hashtag Show that we could potentially see Taskmaster would also be an interesting choice. He would make for a great recurring character throughout the MCU. There is also the possibility that the big bad is a mastermind working in the shadows, especially if there is a chance that Bucky would make an appearance as the Winter Soldier.
The villain is simply described as “exciting” and the studio is open to ethnicity, but looking for someone in their 40s.
There is also a secondary villain, who is described as a “conniving female villain” who may have close ties to Natasha. We may see the character of Sofia make an appearance, a Russian assassin who wanted to take over the mantle of Black Widow. There is potential to include this character to also bring back the Red Room that was teased during the flashbacks of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
There are also two more characters that are hinted at to be Black Widow’s contemporaries in their character breakdowns. The first one is described as a “female Bond” may hint at a character similar to Jessica Drew, which That Hashtag Show even speculated could appear in Far From Home or Mockingbird, who was played by Adrianne Palicki in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and could tie-in Natasha’s history with the spy organization. Still, if they are actively looking for someone, it is unlikely they would include Mockingbird unless they officially cut ties with Marvel TV’s productions.
The second character is given a rather vague description as well, but they seem to be actively looking for actresses and actors that can speak multiple languages. Maybe we could see the British agent Union Jack make an appearance in the film, which could also set up the rumored Captain Britain and the Black Knight film.
a male with an emphasis on African, Middle Eastern or East Indian actors
Some minor roles also include a female and male European Caucasian in the age range of 50 to 60 years. These could either be targets that Black Widow needs to take out or maybe even KGB agents that were involved in the Red Room. There is also an additional casting for a “bookish American”. The castings really don’t give much away but it is always fun to speculate in what direction they are heading with the film.
What do you think? Who do you want to see in Black Widow?
