Here’s some breaking news on that Black Widow standalone film in development, courtesy of our friends at That Hashtag show. They’ve managed to get their hands on some info revealing the film’s alleged setting. According to their source:
The film will find Natasha living in the United States 15 years after the fall of the Soviet Union. That time frame opens up plenty of options, and while many fans seem to want a Black Widow/Hawkeye team up in Budapest, we’ve been told that early discussions about the film involved Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier.
The mid-2000s setting opens a lot of story possibilities for Natasha. If this report is true, we could be seeing the origins of her friendship with Hawkeye in that Budapest story fans have been longing to see. Sebastian Stan recently expressed interest in showing up in this film so a look into Black Widow and Winter Soldier’s first skirmish would be so cool to watch. Personally, I’d like to see them bounce back and forth with this time period and present day. Either way, I’m digging Marvel making the most of out of the MCU timeline by setting stories in the past. First Captain Marvel, now this. Fingers crossed this comes to fruition.
