Kevin Feige is going to be one busy bee in the coming months. He’s got to remaining Phase 3 films left to do, Captain Marvel & Avengers 4, the MCU films 2020 and beyond, his own TV division to supervise for the Disney streaming service, and to top it all off, the acquisition of Marvel-Fox properties X-Men, Fantastic Four, & Deadpool. Speaking with the Hollywood Reporter, Disney overlord Bob Iger was asked about the company’s historical studio acquisition and their plans for the Marvel franchises.
How is Marvel going to absorb Fox’s X-Men franchise? Is Kevin Feige going to oversee everything?
I think it only makes sense. I want to be careful here because of what’s been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn’t be two Marvels.
So Deadpool could become an Avenger?
Kevin’s got a lot of ideas. I’m not suggesting that’s one of them. But who knows?
It’s been a couple of months since Fox’s shareholders voted YES on the merger and here we are still getting excited by a fluffy quote by Disney’s prez. The future is incredibly bright for the MCU and it’s cool to hear Iger comment on Marvel being overseen by a singular visionary. All that said, I am curious on what the agenda is for Marvel-Fox figures like Simon Kinberg. With Feige being the guy to handle them all, I wonder if he’ll be pushed aside or be made still an assisting creative figure for the films.
