After being introduced in Season 2 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) quickly rose to become fan favourites on the show. Both actors were eventually promoted to series regulars due to their popularity and halfway through the 3rd season of the show, Marvel had announced that a pilot for a spin-off show had been ordered by ABC featuring the two. The show was later announced to be Most Wanted with Palicki and Blood reprising their roles from the previous show.

To allow time for the actors to film the new show, Agents of SHIELD wrote an episode to send-off the two characters, entitled “Parting Shot”. The episode featured the two secret agents becoming discovered by the Russian government, preventing them from continuing to be associated with the American-run SHIELD in fear of causing Russian-American conflict.

Sadly, the new show was ultimately not picked up by the studio, causing disappointment with the fans who worried that they would never see the two characters on screen again. When asked about whether the duo could make a return to the show, executive producers Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon had this to say:

One can only dream. That’s always on our minds.

Once an agent, always an agent, so it’s always out there in the ether. But right now we’re taking a breather.

While we are undeniably disappointed at the void these two characters left behind since their departure, the idea that the creators of this show still want it to happen gives us fans a tiny glimmer of hope of seeing a reunion. It’s ongoing crazy storylines like the current LMD arc that makes us wish that Hunter was in the show to complain and quip about it all. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn’t always been the best show around but these two characters sure made it all the more worthwhile to watch.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesday nights 8/7c on ABC.
