Update: Marvel has gone on to confirm the news of their newest series, allowing Jeph Loeb to give a brief comment about the series.

We are thrilled to be able to explore another corner of the Marvel Universe with Cloak and Dagger. We want to thank Tandy and Tyrone’s fans everywhere who have been waiting for this exciting news.

Freeform, ABC, and Marvel also launched an official Twitter account for the series, and they have just revealed when we will be able to see it. While we hoped it could happen as soon as this fall, due to no writers, producers, or cast attached, it will be coming a tad later.

You can read the original report below.

Marvel Studios has been hitting it out of the park, both in their movies and TV shows. With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. moving toward the end of it’s third season, and the network developing the potential Mockingbird-centric spin-off, Marvel’s Most Wanted, there has been rumors of multiple new shows in development with ABC. Although, whether or not those said shows would actually end up on ABC, as opposed to one of their other channels or Netflix was unclear. Well now, in a surprising bit of news, Variety has shared that Marvel will in fact be making Cloak and Dagger, and in fact, it has been given a straight-to-series order. The series will air on Freeform, an off-shoot of ABC with a younger audience. Interestingly enough, ABC was once developing a Mockingbird series for Freeform (then ABC Family), so it’s clear they’ve been looking to bring a Marvel show to the channel for some time now.

You can read the report from Variety below:

The younger-skewing ABC-owned network has greenlit “Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” with a straight-to-series order, Variety has exclusively learned.

Described as a superhero love story, “Cloak and Dagger” is based on the titular comic book duo (also known as Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson) who have appeared in Marvel Comics classics, including “Spider-Man” and “X-Men” stories.

The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

No writer has been attached to the series, but the search is currently underway. Marvel Studios and ABC Signature Studios will co-produce. The characters’ story is targeted toward young adults, making “Cloak and Dagger” a seamless fit for Freeform (previously ABC Family) whose target audience is “Becomers,” the 14-34 demo.

Freeform has also confirmed the news with a tweet.
