In what should not be surprising but, nonetheless, encouraging news, it appears that after recently walking away from the negotiation table, Disney and Fox have reopened the talks that would see Fox sell its television and films studios to Disney.
According to Deadline, talks have begun to progress rapidly and both sides have gone dark, prompting the speculation that they are close on a deal. Disney made similar rapid and silent progress in its purchase of Lucasfilm back in 2012, so it’s possible that fans of the X-Men, Fantastic Four and related characters may be looking at a pretty damn good Christmas present: Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige having access to just about every character ever dreamed up by Marvel Comics creators! With Marvel still able to realign its film slate following Avengers 4, this news could NOT come at a more opportune time.
We don’t expect we’ll hear much of anything unless the deal either falls apart or goes through, but we’ve been of the mind that there is no way Disney would let the rights to Doctor Doom, Galactus, the Silver Surfer and more end up in the hands of another studio when they have the opportunity to get them back. Keep your fingers crossed friends! Feige and Stan Lee’s dreams of uniting all the characters under one banner could be coming true!
