Did anyone see this coming? Anyone? No?
In a surprise to everyone, after it was expected to end after its shortened, upcoming sixth season, Disney has thrown their weight around, yet again, and has had ABC renew Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for another season of television. This would actually help explain those set photos for Spider-Man: Far From Home and the seemingly public return of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the movies, who haven’t been seen in any official capacity since the entire organization was blown up by Steve Rogers in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
However, with this news is a potentially sad revelation, as revealed in the cast list for the seventh season.
A certain, dedicated agent and former director is missing.
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Jeff Ward.
Clark Gregg is not listed, which means either two things:
- He dies in season six due to his body failing as it was at the end of season five
- Phil Coulson is jumping back to the movies and is no longer a regular on the show
The latter is a more optimistic view, but it is entirely possible with the return of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Spider-Man: Far From Home and Phil Coulson’s return to film in Captain Marvel, it could be setting up his return to the big screen.
Whatever the case may be for our favorite agent, I imagine a lot of fans will be happy with this news.
