Looks like everybody’s favorite sidekicks will be back for the yet-to-named fourth Avengers film. Stars Sebastian Stan and Gwyneth Paltrow both dropped interesting quotes that inadvertently revealed the inclusion of said characters in the film. Gwyneth spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and said:
I went to Atlanta to do Avengers 4, so I’m in and out for that, and it’s weird to go back and forth. We’re growing fast, and balls are dropping all the time. But honestly, I was on set and thought, “You sit here for two hours sipping tea, Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle are making me laugh hysterically — why the hell did I give this up?”
…. while Sebastian told Cinemablend:
I still haven’t read a script for this next one. For this fourth one. All I know is I’m going down there in October, and that’s all I know. I still actually haven’t read a script for the last one. [laughs] All I knew was what I was involved in, and I was kept on a very ‘need to know’ basis. Maybe that’s the norm. But it’s a family system. There’s a trust, and there’s a sense of knowledge between the writers and the directors, with Kevin [Feige]… that shows up.
Both quotes seem like innocuous gaffes by the stars so we hope that the Marvel snipers haven’t gotten to them yet after the fact. But really, learning that War Machine and Winter Soldier make it through the next Avengers film isn’t really a shocker. A bigger shock would be them not returning for Avengers 4. But permadeath has never been a thing in stories like these, so even if one of these characters bites the dust in Avengers: Infinity War, they’re bound to show up one way or another. The thing we’re really curious about is the change that these characters will go through after that first fight with Thanos. We know about what happens to Hawkeye when he goes through the ringer in Infinity War. It’s probably safe to guess that Rhodey and Bucky will undergo huge changes as well.
