Captain America: Civil War officially entered production last week, and as expected, this week they’ve officially confirmed the cast for the film.
As expected, the entire line-up of the New Avengers revealed at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron will return. Joining them is Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, who has now officially been confirmed for Civil War, as well as William Hurt, reprising his role as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who we last saw in The Incredible Hulk. His appearance has been rumored for some time now – alongside a younger version of the character appearing in Ant-Man – but this is our first official confirmation of him joining the cast.
Some notable absences from the press release are Colbie Smulder’s Maria Hill and Samuel Jackson’s Nick Fury. Although they are not listed below, it doesn’t mean they won’t appear in the film. If you’ll recall, we’d only found out about Linda Cardellini and Julie Delpy appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron approximately two weeks before the film hit theaters. It’s more than likely that their roles are being kept secret for now, though we may learn more about where they stand in the wake of Age of Ultron in next week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finale.
Another absence from the press release? Spider-Man. It’s all but confirmed that he’ll be in Civil War, but seeing as he has yet to be officially cast, he has been left out of the press release. Given that Marvel and Sony seem to be closing in on both an actor and a director, I’d say it’s safe to bet we’ll hear about that casting relatively soon.

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
