Up next on the slate for Marvel Studios is Thor: Ragnarok. With the fantastic teasers and trailers that have been released in advance of this film, the hype is building. Director Taika Waititi made such a splash at the recent San Diego Comic-Con that Thor buzz has continued long after the end of the event. One detail that has had fans excited ever since they saw the first teaser back in April is the destruction of Mjölnir, Thor’s hammer.
This detail immediately got fan’s attention, because Mjölnir is crucial to Thor’s story, and his power. Our first look at Hela, portrayed by Cate Blanchett, as her destroying this tool, was a genius move that showed her powers without any additional explanation necessary. Blanchett recently revealed that this is also the detail that got her attention, when she was considering the role.
That had me at ‘hello’ actually. I thought that was really exciting that they were prepared to destroy Thor’s power in the first few minutes. It’s a nice entrance.
With the destruction of Thor’s hammer in the first few minutes of the film, the rules will be changing for our hero, who we know will eventually be reunited with his old friend Bruce Banner in his intergalactic journey. Blanchett will be introducing herself as a strong Marvel villain, as the first woman to take the villainous lead in a Marvel Movie (coming in just after Sigourney Weaver takes on The Defenders).
Are you excited to see what other surprises Blanchett’s character has in store for fans in Thor: Ragnarok? How will the lack of Mjölnir affect Thor? Let us know, in the comments! Meanwhile, we’ll all wait patiently for Thor: Ragnarok to premiere on November 3.
