In the mid-season finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, it was revealed that Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) had been replaced by a life model decoy (LMD). The LMD version of Agent May is similar to the original, but the actress has revealed that their differences open up potential for a Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Agent May romance. Chloe Bennet revealed to Entertainment Weekly Daisy’s reaction to a potential romance between the two agents.
“She thinks it’s cute. She loves these two people and they deserve happiness at work and not at work.”
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has not shied away from inter-office romance, and several major characters are in steady relationships with their co-workers. It seems that Daisy Johnson and the rest of the team will be supportive of Coulson and May’s relationship. Chloe Bennet was asked if the team would notice anything different about Agent May that would possibly give away her identity as a life model decoy.
” It’s hard to tell because she already is so distant, so maybe the thing that Daisy would notice most is the whole lack of distance and the pique of her interest in things that maybe she wouldn’t be interested in. It’ll be an interesting reveal when the team finds out”
It would appear that LMD Agent May allows herself to become closer to her team mates then her human counter-part. Her programming would account for similarities to the original, but it seems that the divergence will allow for her to have an individual personality. Although the team may be happy for the new relationship, it remains to be seen whether the new May’s behavior will eventually differ in ways that can not be ignored by those that know her well. It is possible that the reveal of the LMD May could occur then through behavioral observations, rather than if she betrays the team to Dr. Radcliffe (John Hannah).
