Of all the MCU franchises, Thor has had the lease likely trajectory.  After a decent start and a second film that generally receives poor marks, Thor: Ragnarok reworked the character in a radical, and commercially successful, way.  Now, instead of wrapping the trilogy up, it seems the door is open for the God of Thunder to maybe become the first solo character to receive a fourth installment.  Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi spent New Year’s together and they talked about the possibility of just that.

We gave cheers to Thor 3. But it also was like, “What could we do with four? We could do this and this.” We were throwing ideas around. But also, just to work together again. That was one of the most enjoyable creative partnerships I’ve ever had.

Anyone who watched social media or behind the scenes footage knows that the cast and crew of Thor: Ragnarok had a blast together.  New characters like Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie are rife for further storylines in the MCU.  Most fans would be fully on board for another comedic romp with Odin’s son.

Now there is the small issue of whether or not Thor will survive the chaos of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4.  Hemsworth was wise enough to make sure he covered his bases and make it clear he could die in those films.

It just depends on how The Avengers (movies) all wrap up. I finished shooting and now they are going to edit it and see how the stories play out. There are so many interwoven scenes and stories and characters.

A major question going forward will be how Marvel handles its franchises.  No one has officially stated that a fourth film is impossible, but trilogies have been the model thus far.   Iron Man seemingly ended with a trilogy, with no film in production since the third one hit theaters almost five years ago.  James Gunn has also made clear that his version of Guardians of the Galaxy have a three movie arc and that’s all.

What do you think?  Would you like another Thor movie with Hemsworth?  Or are you cheering for the God of Thunder to bite the dust against Thanos?  What about doing a film starring Thompson or another female Thor like the comics?  Share your thoughts in the comments below.
