Before Guardians of the Galaxy had even debuted in the US, Marvel had already announced a sequel for their new rogue crime fighting team.
One of the biggest success stories to come out of Guardians of the Galaxy was James Gunn turning Chris Pratt into a leading man and one of the biggest names in Hollywood. Pratt is continuing his success by helping reboot the Jurassic Park franchise and has been linked to every rumor surrounding any major franchise over the last year.
Pratt recently sat down with GQ Magazine and revealed some new details about his contract and the Guardians franchise. As far as his contract is concerned it appears he will appear as Star-Lord at least five more times.
I’m tied to doing three more, or five more, Guardians of the Galaxy or whatever it is, you know, two more Guardians plus another couple.
Based on this quote it seems likely we get Guardians of the Galaxy 3 early on in Phase 4 and then three cameo appearances from Pratt as well. Those cameos could appear in a large variety of ways such as Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, Inhumans, or a number of possible spinoffs.
My guess is a cameo in Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 plus two more cameos in Phase 4 for solo movies that spin out of the Guardians franchise. Those spinoffs could be a Rocket Raccoon and Groot team up movie, the eventual Nova solo movie we will get, or even an appearance in a Planet Hulk film if Marvel ever goes that route.
Pratt also joked that once he eventually retires from acting and action movies, it may not last long.
We’ll see. I don’t know. I think I would do it and then three months later I would be tired of bird hunting and I would be like ‘…Guardians Ten?’
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will start production next February and hits theaters May 5, 2017.
