Despite being only a few months away from Captain Marvel and not yet having a trailer, we are starting to get more and more info on the next movie coming for the MCU. Last week we got the very first official images of the film, and from now on we should expect news and content relating to the film to drop every now and then.

In a recent interview for Entertainment Weekly, Clark Gregg teased a bit about his role in the movie and its relation to 21st century Coulson we know and love. Considering the movie is set in the 90’s, the character will most likely be a low-level S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, and Gregg talked about his first encounter with future boss Nick Fury. Describing it as their “meet-cute” moment, the actor then added that he didn’t think Sam [L. Jackson] would describe it that way. Considering this statement and both characters’ personalities, it sure looks like the moment will be far more appreciated by Coulson than by Fury.

Further speaking of the relationship, he mentioned that “He’s a relatively new S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who is obsessed with MC Hammer and dresses just like him, and it makes Director Fury so angry. The genie pants don’t really go with the Armani.” This sounds like the enthusiastic fanboy we all know the character to be deep inside, and a lot less like the serious, responsible agent he becomes with the years. It definitely will be cool to see Phil before he became the phase one Coulson we knew.

You can see what might be Coulson’s “first rodeo”, as Gregg himself described, on March 8th, 2019, the date Captain Marvel arrives in theaters worldwide.
