Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is heading into its final season and some lucky few were able to watch the premiere episode at Disney’s D23 event. While there weren’t any massive reveals for returning actors or characters leaking out, we did get a trailer teasing what we can expect from the upcoming season. The last season took us on quite an emotional adventure. Our favorite SHIELD agents had to face an evil version of Coulson, fight off an alien body-snatcher invasion, face Chronicoms and travel through space to safely bring Fitz home. At the end of it all, we got the return of Coulson as the most advanced LMD and the next season will jump into more time travel shenanigans. Luckily, the trailer below gives us a nice tease of what is to come in the upcoming season.
The Chronicom’s will be a major aspect of the final season and it is always interesting to see their non-emotional reactions to people. Most of the trailer contains a small glimpse into what may be the premiere episode of the seventh season. The poor cop losing his face was rather disturbing to watch and highlights just how dark this show can get over the years. There are small hints of what almost feels like a classic noir storyline, the return of HYDRA (because of course) and some kind of rocket shooting into space. With a post-World War 2 setting, hopefully, this season could also act as the bridge between Agent Carter‘s missing third season and Steve’s return in Avengers: Endgame. It would be a nice nod to have him make a small cameo as both traveled through time for different purposes. The season looks like it will give the show the proper send-off and hopefully keep a door open for a future for our favorite SHIELD agents.
