There are only two episodes remaining of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. before the season three mid-season finale, and from the sounds of it, these next two episodes will be pretty big. Since the first season, Brett Dalton‘s character, Grant Ward, has played a rather substainal part in the series. After the events in Captain America: The Winter Soldier during the show’s first season, we learned that Agent Grant Ward was actually aligned with Hydra – mainly out of loyalty of his mentor, John Garrett (Bill Paxton). In season two, we saw a new side to Ward as he opened himself up to Agent 33/Kara (Maya Stojan) and took up the title as the new leader of Hydra. And so far this season, we’ve seen him begin the process of rebuilding Hydra from the ground up as he continues into this season’s big bad. And while all of that is certainly interesting, it appears as though there’s still plenty of surprises left when it comes to Grant Ward – or at least, a recent interview with Dalton would seem to indicate.

In the first clip revealed for this upcoming Tuesday’s episode, the ninth of the season, titled “Closure”, we see Director Coulson (Clark Gregg) ask Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) about Ward, and surprisingly, there’s a good amount of empathy in Daisy’s words when it comes to her former SO.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens to Ward during the mid-season finale. Will he become Hellfire or Taskmaster as fans have speculated for some time? Or will he be revealed to be another comic book character? What do you think? Sound off in the comments below!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which airs Tuesdays on ABC at 9 PM EST, will air it’s mid-season finale on December 8th and then won’t be back on the air until March 2016. As was the case last year, Agent Carter will take over during S.H.I.E.L.D.’s winter hiatus.
