When Kevin Feige revealed that Marvel Studios won’t be attending SDCC to present their next slate of films in the infamous Hall H, fans were understandably bummed. After all, SDCC is the mecca for all things geek and pop culture and has been home to countless major announcements for Marvel Studios. The presence of Marvel Studios will be sorely missed. The other side of the MCU aka Marvel Television, however, seems keen on making a big splash. Not only has it been confirmed that Iron Fist Season 2 will have a huge presence in the convention but there’s talk of a possible panel for the upcoming seasons of Daredevil and Punisher as well. This according to Deadline.
Iron Fist star Finn Jones will be showing up and other cast members and producers are expected to join him to chat about the upcoming season 2. Jones is making a cameo in the upcoming season 2 of Marvel’s Luke Cage which drops June 22.
Daredevil season 3 is also in a similar situation: The series is in the can, but there haven’t been any announcements about its premiere date. We also hear there are discussions going on for a possible Daredevil appearance at SDCC as well.
There’s also talk about putting together a Punisher panel for SDCC. It was announced today that Punisher star Jon Bernthal is making an appearance in the ninth season of AMC’s The Walking Dead, and if he’s headed to SDCC for that series, it’s quite conceivable there could be a panel for Punisher, which has shot a season 2, but has no premiere date yet.
This means a few things. One, the confirmation that Iron Fist is slated to have a panel next month in SDCC with the main cast and crew is a definite sign Season 2 will be the next Marvel-Netflix show to come out. Two, the fact that there’s a likelihood of Daredevil and The Punisher being presented this early in the game – there’s still NYCC in October, Marvel TV’s usual home turf – means they want the hype to begin. I could totally see them drop a teaser trailer for both shows. Maybe they put up a small Daredevil pop-up exhibit for Season 3 where they announce the date. Whatever the case is, all MCU TV fans better keep their eyes peeled next month during SDCC week.
