Marvel and Netflix’s first collaboration Daredevil was a big hit for both companies, with fans and critics often hailing it as Marvel’s best series. The series set the tone and excited fans with a new sub-universe of Marvel shows, with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist to follow. In the past, the Netflix series have filmed as soon as the previous series had finished filming. Because of fan demand, Netflix has been trying to produce their Marvel series faster. This, paired with the growing slate of Marvel series (such as the Daredevil spin-off The Punisher), means shooting schedules will overlap. This was already seen last fall when both The Punisher and The Defenders began shooting last October.

With Marvel Netflix’s big crossover event series The Defenders wrapping last month, and with the second season of Jessica Jones beginning filming, fans have been curious as to when the third season of Daredevil would begin production. In a recent radio interview, Daredevil himself (Charlie Cox) was asked about the series and gave this response:

I do that later in the year. We’ll go back and do that.

This news should excite fans, as this would mean a new season of the series will probably hit TV screens next year. While Season 3 was announced last year with a teaser video, it gave no hint as to when the season was coming.

Daredevil Season 2 premiered over a year ago, in March 2016, so fans have been growing in anticipation. The season had two main storylines, introducing two famous comic characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first being Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, exciting fans with brutal gun action and surprising chemistry with Deborah Ann Woll‘s Karen Page. The arc was so well received, Netflix had greenlit a Punisher series starring both actors.

The second story centered around Elodie Yung‘s Elektra and the battle against the villainous group The Hand (who re-appears in Iron Fist). This arc was less well received as the first but was seen almost as a prelude to the crossover series The Defenders, which will see the Netflix heroes team up to fight both Elektra and The Hand. With several of the main cast of the previous season being in the upcoming series The Defenders and The Punisher, fans are curious as to how these shows will affect the next season of Daredevil.

The Defenders will be released sometime this summer.
