We recently learned that Daredevil season 3 would be hitting our TV screens in less than a month on October 19. Along with the announcement came a few marketing pieces such as a really neat poster. As they continue to ramp up promotion for the show, new showrunner Erik Oleson sat down with Entertainment Weekly to give us a deeper insight into the new episodes.

The interview went on about Matt Murdock’s state of mind after the events of The Defenders, the new characters coming to the story and, the most interesting part, the role Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk is going to have this time. After a brief appearance on season 2, Fisk is back for good this time, and, as the showrunner teases, more dangerous than ever.

Fisk has gotten smarter, more calculated, and more manipulative,” says Oleson, adding that Fisk is the perfect villain for the drama to feel timelier than ever. “I very much wanted to tell a story that’s relevant to the world around us. I looked at the show as a way to examine how tyrants manipulate in order to push their own agenda and cause fear and distrust.

It seems that not only the producers made sure Fisk would return as gloriously and dangerously as he was in the first season, but also that his presence meant more to the script than just a threat to the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. If what Oleson has to say turns out to be true, the third installment of Daredevil is going to prove more relevant to the audience than we thought it would.
