It has been rough for MCU and Guardians of the Galaxy fans. The resurfacing of old tweets by director James Gunn got him fired and was forced to leave the third installment of his blockbuster franchise behind. We have yet heard any news regarding a new director or the possible return of Gunn, as various cast members and fans have shared their support to get him rehired. As of now, it still seems unlikely that he will return to the franchise, as recent reports pointed to his re-hiring being a big question hanging over the franchise’s future. One of the most vocal against Disney’s decision has been Dave Bautista, who know might even exit Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 if Gunn‘s script isn’t used.

“Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me. I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.”
It would certainly be heartbreaking to also lose one of the franchise’s most loveable characters if Bautista leaves the project. He does point out that he does not believe that this statement would get Gunn his job back, but he truly believes in him and wants to have him finish his vision. The director was also going to help kickstart the cosmic side of the MCU, as we are heading into a new world beyond Phase 3. It is odd that we have not heard any news regarding new directors or even what plans are in store for the franchise. Marvel Studios and Disney have been unusually quiet as of late, so they might still be involved in heavy negotiations/discussions. Whatever happens, only time will tell sadly, but it would be sad to also lose Bautista as a result of these unfortunate events.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you think Gunn might return?
