Here’s some exciting (if not that surprising) news as a late Christmas present! Development is now officially underway on Deadpool at Marvel Studios – which may well end up being the first of the previously Fox-owned Marvel properties to hit the big screen – and it’s been revealed by none other than the Merc with the Mouth himself, Ryan Reynolds.
The reveal comes from a new interview with the actor, and while he doesn’t give us any concrete details on the project, we do now at least know that the film is being worked on. You can read (and watch) his full answer to the question of Deadpool‘s future below:
Uh, yeah, we’re working on it right now with the whole team. We’re over at [Marvel Studios] now, which is like the big leagues all of a sudden, it’s kind of crazy. So, yeah, we’re working on it.
This news isn’t exactly a surprise, but it’s nice to finally get confirmation that a third Deadpool film is in active development at Marvel Studios after the many teases and rumors throughout the year. As for the “whole team” Reynolds refers to, it’s unclear whether that is Marvel Studios, or perhaps the team behind Deadpool 2 – but regardless, if development is underway, it shouldn’t be too long before we start to hear more about who will be working on the next film in the franchise.
We don’t know when Deadpool 3 – or whatever it ends up being called – will release, but I personally wouldn’t be surprised if it made its way onto Marvel’s 2022 slate, and with any luck, we’ll hear more about the franchise’s future soon.
